I began studying oil painting when I was 64 years old and after taking my first class, I was hooked. Oil painting was originally a great challenge that became a passion and now is a vocation. I launched my career in January 2000.

I started taking classes in oil painting at Western Nevada Community College in Northern Nevada where I was on the Dean's List for six semesters.

I have been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nevada Arts Council to further my art studies. I've been fortunate to take workshops given locally by Heidi Moran, Hal Watt, Gary Jenkins, Charles Meunch and T.M. Nicholas, Tina Tyrrell, and Mark Tompkins.

In October 2004, I had the opportunity to go to Venice, Italy to study with Lesley Rich.

I enjoy painting European Architecture, canals of Venice, street scenes, Spanish dancers and pet portraits. My objective is to paint on larger size canvas in order to increase the amount of detail those who view my art will see in European street scenes and architecture. My art has been shown and sold in many Northern Nevada venues.

In 2005, I decided to seek exposure of my art in areas other than Northern Nevada, as individuals from around the United States have contacted me and purchased my art. My art is now available in limited edition embellished Giclee and limited editional print forms as well as original oil paintings.

Prior to developing my vocation in oil painting, I wrote and published 12 cookbooks and travel guides. I have written about food, people, and places since 1974. I taught cooking at Sierra Nevada College and produced and directed a PBS television show entitled "The Taste of Tahoe."
